I had an all-around good Thanksgiving. (Happy evening of Thanksgiving, all.) Good food and good company all concluded by around 3 p.m. Having successful negotiated the social adventures of the day, I got to lift the weight from my shoulders and bum around in the fannish labyrinth of my mind for several hours. Now, that's a holiday.

And having a day off, I'm going to do a fannish roundup:

Old shows I have been revisiting:

Babylon 5, season 5 )

Blake's 7, series 4 )

And then, the new:

Doctor Who: The Waters of Mars - light spoilers )

i guess it cant be considered as a spoiler cuz somewhere in book....15? 13? (both books has been translated by QT-san) we were shown Yuzuru attending a concert of SEEVA (where the vocalist is Oda's current kansho XD) however Yuzuru was so sad because his best friend couldnt make it (Takaya became too busy with his new self and then the problem with 'naoe's lack of interest)

i was browsing for BUCK TICk's musics when i came across another visual-kei band called SIVA

now... was sensei just randomly made up a name of a rock band which coincidently sounds like it or did she based it from the real thing? XD

The same poem in English )

Deutsche Version )

Versión española )

I was rather fond of this poem when I was younger. Now I see it as more bitter than idealistic. Or bitter AND YET idealistic. I don't know myself.
Multilanguage compilations are fun. Somehow I like the French version.
Oh, right, the author. Zbigniew Herbert.

An interesting philological question: can a translator be proud of her work - and show it - when she's merely transcribing an already existing work into another language? Thanks to [info]abelarda, I'm feeding my over ten years of hunger for Les Misérables fanfiction in my native Polish, realising by the way how much, not to offend anyone, "Polish school of fanfiction" differs from most of the mass production in English. Yet English is Latin of our times, one has to use it to let the verbal communicate cross the borders of a relatively small linguistic community. Therefore I've decided to use my humble skills on [info]abelarda's work. She did something almost impossible, connecting in one story Jean Prouvaire, Grantaire and sexual undertones with, well, not what one might expect at the end. The translation was not a request, I decided I simply want to do it. While working, I started to like the characters more and more (I thought it's already impossible!) and when finished, I realised that I, too, want this little story to be at least seen. I also understood how important it is when you know, actually know that somebody read you. I feel the need and got the author's kind permission to post the link to the story on my LJ.

So, here it is - Polish experiment with French classic. In English. Blame the Polish-to-English translator for all faults you may find!

I don't know if anyone else has had this issue, but I've found that some of the links in this community's profile are inaccessible, mainly the ones to audio skits and summaries. I was wondering if anything can be done about this. Personally, I go a little nuts when I feel like I'm missing something interesting, and this will probably be discouraging to new members of the community.

Anyone else noticed this?

So, the infamous scene in the second OVA. When Naoe throws Takaya down on the bed Takaya says, "What do you think you're doing?" Naoe starts taking off his jacket and says "Anatato yaritai desu yo" (or however it goes) in Japanese. The subtitles read "I'm going to do 'it' to you." What I'm interested in the word "yaritai" (if that's how it's spelled). I can't seem to find a definition of the word. I imagine that it's a rather inappropriate term, but I'm just curious if anyone knows the meaning of the word.

note: also posted or mirage of blaze

I don't know if this idea has been hashed out before, but here's what i was thinking, here in the states we have things called Audio Books (I don't know if its the same thing as CD dramas) Audio books are simply that a person reads the book in its entirety onto a disk or casette.

Current obsession = Shoujo mangas and Thai food. :3

Reading Aoi no Fuuin by Chie Shinohara of Red River fame. Like this one better than RR. All her characters have this strange, over-dramatic, masochistic side. Lol. Less in AnF. I want to throttle half of the characters in Red River. OTT much!

Waiting for the next chapter of 7Seed.... crappy artwork, excellent plot and execution. I'm biting my fingernails on this one.

Finished Gin no Yusha. Cute manga.

Popcorn-shoujo recc: Koukou Debut, Vampire Knight, Flat, Degenki Love Machine, Maison de Beauties.

Read X-Day by M. Setona. Weird manga about blowing up your own school. Would've enjoyed this if I was a teenager. And boy, how fugly was her art before she did After School Nightmare? ASN deserves an entry of it's own. Up there with Pan's Labrinth in terms of surrealness. All her mangas are weird. I think X-Day is overrated and overblown (I am so lame XP).

And I bought Demon Diary manwha. Mwahahaha!!(ok, bad pun^^;;).

Food: Green curry noodles. Oishii~~ I shall consume this everyday till I puke, lol. J/k. But it's really delicious. The chef that cooks this is very skilled. If I were rich, I'd hire the chef to cook for me. ;)

I'm getting fatter. Ate energy bars cos I'm too lazy to cook breakfast. Gained 1kg in a week. Lol. I wonder if a low fat/calorie + high fibre energy bar exist. Not too expensive hopefully.

Cause that'd be nifty.
